Terms of use

These terms govern your use of the Ura apps and this site, both operated by nadlo GmbH. By installing or using Ura you accept them.

Ura costs nothing, has no account and no subscription. Nothing here creates a contract for a paid service.

Ura is a navigation aid. It shows the official snowmobile routes of Finland on a map and tells you whether your position is on one of them.

Ura is not an authority, not a safety device, and not a substitute for a map, a compass, local knowledge or your own judgement. It tells you what the data says; it does not tell you whether it is safe to ride.

You may use Ura privately and commercially, free of charge, for as long as these terms are in force. You may not:

• resell the app or its data, or offer either as a service of your own;
• extract the route or place data in bulk, or build a competing dataset from it;
• decompile or reverse engineer the app, except as far as the law expressly allows.

The routes, places and base map in Ura come from public sources, compiled at a point in time and shipped to your phone. We do not survey them ourselves, and we do not warrant that they are accurate, complete or current. In particular:

• a route in the app may be closed, rerouted, unmaintained or gone;
• a route may exist in reality and be missing from the app — parts of the network, including Metsähallitus permit tracks, are not in the public registers at all;
• a place — fuel, food, shelter — may have moved, closed or changed its opening hours;
• ice, snow cover and the base map's depiction of water change with the season and the weather, and the data does not.

The app's on-route and off-route verdict is a calculation against this stored data, not an observation of the ground you are on. Treat it as information, never as permission.

You decide whether, where and how to ride, and you carry the consequences of that decision. Before and during every ride it is yours to check:

• that you hold the permits the route requires;
• closures, warnings and local rules;
• ice thickness, avalanche danger and the weather;
• that your vehicle, equipment and experience match the route.

Do not ride anywhere you could not get back from without the app. A phone can run out of battery, lose signal or its GPS fix, break, or freeze. Carry independent means of navigation and a way to call for help. Permits are sold at:

Ura is provided as it is, with no promise that it is available, uninterrupted or free of errors. We may change it, limit it or discontinue it at any time, and we may stop publishing route updates.

Parts of the app depend on services we do not run — the map tiles, the app stores, your phone's location hardware. We are not responsible for their availability.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for damage arising from the use of Ura, from route, place or map data being wrong, incomplete or out of date, or from the app being unavailable or in error. This covers in particular personal injury, damage to property, rescue costs, fines, and losses caused by relying on the app.

What the law does not allow to be excluded is not excluded. Under Swiss law, liability for unlawful intent and gross negligence cannot be waived in advance, and nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or any other liability that may not be limited.

If you use Ura as a consumer, the mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in apply regardless of anything written here.

Ura carries data that belongs to others and keeps its own licence terms:

• Routes from LIPAS, University of Jyväskylä (CC BY 4.0).
• Places from OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).
• The base map from the National Land Survey of Finland.

The app, this site, the name Ura, the mark and the design belong to nadlo GmbH. The third-party data keeps the licences named above.

What Ura does with your data — and what it deliberately does not — is set out in the privacy policy.

We may update these terms as the app changes. The date at the top of this page is the date of the current version; continuing to use Ura after a change means you accept the new version.

Swiss law applies, to the exclusion of its conflict-of-law rules and of the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The place of jurisdiction is Baden, Switzerland, the registered seat of nadlo GmbH.

Where you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in, or of the right to bring proceedings there.
